ABSTRACT
Ostium secundum atrial septal defect is a common cardiac malformation that, in most cases, manifests clinically in adulthood. When it affects hemodynamics or cardiac function, surgical correction is indicated, with options including percutaneous resolution or open surgery. For the latter, new approaches have been described as an alternative to conventional surgery, with reports of better cosmetic results and shorter hospital stays.
