Protected cardiac surgery: managing risk before it manages you
Calderón-Abbo, Moisés C
ABSTRACT
Those of us who have been in the operating room long enough know the feeling well: you are halfway through a complex redo, the heart comes off bypass sluggishly, and the anesthesiologist’s face tells you everything before a word is spoken. You add inotropes, you wait, you adjust — and sometimes you get away with it, and sometimes you do not. That particular form of anxiety is what this editorial is about.
